Hello! My name is Tahira Karim.
It really is very nice to meet you :)

I am an illustrator, an author and a teacher.
I absolutely love the ocean, pictures and learning.

Born in Canada with mixed Indian and African heritage, I have always been drawn to history and stories. One of my dreams was to create children's books that could help children by inspiring their confidence, building their life skills and giving them the autonomy they deserve. Now I have begun this journey.

I create these books from my ideas, my background and through using my skills in animation, design, writing and teaching.
I create these books to address the issues close to my heart ; human rights, equality of girls in the world,  freedom, and the environment.

It is my dream to work with people, publishers and companies who have a vested interest in education, rights and green-initiatives for building towards healthy and strong communities with bright futures.

Frequently asked questions.

Why TAUSKA ?

TAUSKA is a mix of my first name, middle name and last name. Tahira Nusrat Karim - TAUSKA.
I liked the sound of it and it stuck.

What do you do ?

I can usually be found drawing and working in my studio apartment, smelling flowers in the gardens of Paris or staring at small fish swimming in the Seine (The river that runs through Paris).  I also work as a graphic designer.

What is your education ?

I have four degrees. I know it's a lot.
I studied animation and media arts at the Emily Carr University in Vancouver, Canada (2008). Concurrently I began working towards a 3 year diploma in Aromatherapy at Langara University, Vancouver (2010). Between 2010 and 2012 I studied Education at the University of Victoria, Canada graduated with a B.Ed. I worked as a teacher in various postings for 6 years. And finally in 2020 I graduated with a Masters in Fine Arts, in Transdisciplinary New Media in 2020, Paris, France.

Why do you like learning so much ?

Learning  fascinates me. So even though I am working full time now, I am still always wanting to learn new things and making time for growing my skills through reading and practice. I am not just interested in art, and stories though, I love learning about animals, the planet, space, dinosaurs, our senses, sports and so many more things.

What else do you like to do ?

I love visiting animals in their natural habitats.  My parents come from East Africa, so I was lucky to go on Safari a few times growing up while visiting Kenya. Also, growing up in Calgary, in Canada, we were very close to the mountains, so we often saw bears, moose, deer and many other wild animals. I miss that in Paris, but it's a good reason to go home to visit !
